2001 NEW ORLEANS
6-7 OCTOBER
HOSTED BY BILL AND CATHY MILLER
In October 2001, Merrick shipmates, along with family and friends, held a reunion in New Orleans. Unfortunately,
the tragic events of September 11th kept several shipmates from attending, but the approximately 20 that were able
to make the trip (including two plank owners) had a wonderful time.
The men held meetings and toured the D-Day Museum, while the wives toured the French Quarter and enjoyed a
cooking class and lunch at the New Orleans School of Cooking. The day concluded with a banquet dinner.
Before departing the following morning, shipmate Steve Paul presented the group with a slide show of his years
on the Merrick (1956-59). Everyone enjoyed seeing the ship afloat again and some of the wives were heard
commenting on the handsome young sailors. It was a great end to the trip.
